Victoria gold Proof "Golden Jubilee" Medal 1887 PR62 Ultra Cameo NGC, BHM-3219, Eimer-1733a. 58mm. 82.79gm. By J.E. Boehm and F. Leighton. Struck to a mintage of just 944 pieces this massive issue was produced to commemorate Victoria's 50th year on the throne, debuting her 'Jubilee' portrait on the obverse while the reverse depicts the Queen enthroned amid figures of arts, science, commerce and industry. The frosted devices here offer more contrast to the fields than what is sometimes the case with this popular issue. The mythological motif on the reverse is particularly resplendent in design and strike and leaves the viewer with an impression of the highest quality. While the Queen's jubilee inspired many unofficial medals and commemoratives, this type was the official production meant to mark the event. The surface abrasions that limit the assigned grade are usual for the type, and remains among the finest we've handled. From the Abbeygate Collection of British Medals
