THESSALY. Larissa. Circa 450/40-420 B.C. AR drachm. 5.98 gm. 18 mm. The hero Thessalos right, petasos and chlamys over shoulder, wrestling bull charging right, restraining it by holding band across its head / Bridled horse galloping right, within incuse square; ΛΑΡ - IΣΑΙ. Lorber, Thessalian 53/54. BCD Thessaly II 171 var. (ethnic). HGC 4, 418 (same obverse die as illustration). Hermann Group III, pl iii, obv2/rev3. SNGCop 107var. Very Fine; lightly iridescent tone; light graffiti–V on obverse, Δ on reverse; clear and well centered, struck on good silver. Good style Thessalos and bull, and dramatic almost mythological-looking horse on reverse.
