German East Africa
German Colony. Wilhelm II gold 15 Rupien 1916-T UNC Details (Removed From Jewelry) NGC, Tabora mint, KM16.2, J-728a. Mintage: 6,395. Arabesque below A in OSTAFRIKA variety. Issued by the Imperial German government for its German East Africa colony (Tanzania, today) during World War I, this single-year type is increasingly in demand among German Empire collectors and specialists in African numismatics. Featuring a uniquely beautiful elephant and mountain design, this example, which exhibits the usual "pebbled" look, is bolstered by richly lustrous surfaces and an attractive red-gold patina, particularly on the reverse. Only a faint trace of mounting mars this supremely appealing specimen.
