French West Africa
French Colony brass Unit (5 Francs) 1883 MS63 NGC, Paris mint, KM-Tn6, Lec-22 (tres rare). A very similar jeton issue to Lec-21, but this variety is a slightly lighter weight (1.73 vs 1.3 grams). A very scarce issue that only seldom appears on the auction market. This brass piece has toned to a beautiful olive-color but also flashes hues of periwinkle and exhibits full mint brilliance. A couple of spots of cloudiness on the reverse prevent an even higher grade. This lot includes an old Bowers and Merena auction envelope from "The Estate of Byron F. Johnson , Jr." sale (1989, lot 3207).
