Argolis, Argos. Tetradrachm; Argolis, Argos; c. 370-350 BC, Tetradrachm, 16.03g. BM-42 (same dies), Traite-III, 621, BCD-, Weber-, Lockett-. Obv: APΓEIΩN Head of Hera r., hair flowing down the back of her neck, wearing stephane ornamented with palmettes. Rx: Two dolphins swimming in clockwise circle; between them, temple key bound with filet. The temple key is an especially rare and interesting reverse symbol, missing in the HJB photofile and most of the references consulted, including the comprehensive BCD Collection and complete runs of Bank Leu and NFA catalogues. This is an excessively rare coin, with very few examples recorded for a tetradrachm. The obverse resembles the Hera coins of Olympia, and the reverse shows a temple key suspended between the two dolphins. Probably less then three examples of this coin exist, with this coin being the finest. gVF / EF
