Austria 2.1.1954 P-135a PMG Superb Gem UNC 67 EPQ 1000/- Schilling
Offered in this lot is the single finest example in the PMG population report of the highest denomination of the iconic 1954 series of Austria. Graced by the portrait of Anton Bruckner, a 19th century composer and organist, this type was introduced into circulation in 1956 and withdrawn eight years later in 1964. A glance at publicly available auction records worldwide shows that this type, in any uncirculated grade, seldom becomes available at public auction. We notice that a PMG 66 EPQ of this type brought $10,200 elsewhere in January of 2022. This superior example should perform as well if not better today. Near perfect centering, deep blue inks and strong originality can clearly be seen in the PMG holder and make for a very appealing 1950s banknote.
