ITALY. Calabria. Tarentum. AR Didrachm (Nomos) (6.33 gms), ca. 272-240 B.C. NGC AU, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 5/5. Flan Flaw.
HGC-1, 893; HN Italy-1039. Obverse: Helmeted warrior, holding lance and shield, on horse prancing right; ΘI to left; Reverse: Phalanthos, holding trident, riding dolphin left and being crowned by Nike flying above to right; rudder below. Though a minor flan flaw is noted, this aspect is easily overlooked, as the present example exhibits hardly anything in the way of handling, all while offering enchanting toning and some great luster remaining.
Estimate: $800 - $1200
