JULIUS CAESAR. AR Denarius (3.93 gms), Military Mint traveling with Caesar, 49 B.C. NGC MS, Strike: 2/5 Surface: 5/5.
Cr-443/1; CRI-9; Syd-1006; RSC-49. Obverse: Elephant advancing right, trampling upon horned serpent; Reverse: Emblems of the pontificate: simpulum, aspergillum, securis, and apex. Though this example does exhibit some noted striking weakness and flaws on each side, the overall quality of strike is not nearly as affected as NGC's designation would otherwise indicate. Pleasingly toned, with elegant luster and a burnished nature highlighting the devices.
Estimate: $1000 - $2000
