IRAN. Silver 5000 Dinars (5 Krans) Pattern, AH 1297 (1879). Tehran Mint. Nasir al-Din Shah. PCGS SPECIMEN-61.
cf. KM-914 (business strike). Just the third example of the type certified by PCGS, this stunning crown has been described as a pattern issue, though it shares its design elements with the normal business strike of the year. The heightened level of craftsmanship and manufacture, however, clearly sets it apart from the rest of the emission, accounting for its specimen/pattern status. Very sharply struck and produced, with elegant eye appeal that immediately draws in the gaze of the viewer. Rings of peripheral iridescence upon each side undoubtedly make this a must for any aficionado of coins with immense charm and character. For the collectors of Iranian issues or difficult world crowns more broadly, this presents an EXTREMELY RARE opportunity. The finest of the three certified by PCGS, a SPECIMEN-66, realized a total of $36,000 in January 2022.

From the Collection of Richard Evans Norton (1872-1946).

Estimate: $3000 - $6000
