FRANCE, Troisième République. 1870-1940. AV Medal (41mm, 39.10 g, 12h). Presented to Gustave Cuvereau in Honor of his Twenty-Five Years of Service. Paris mint. Dually dated 1881 and 1906. GRANDS MAGASINS DU LOUVRE PARIS, recumbent lion facing on large upright L / 1881/CUVEREAU/GUSTAVE/1906 engraved in three lines and filled with black for emphasis, within a wreath of laurel and oak branches. Edge: cornucopia and OR. As Issued, a few light hairlines.


The Grands Magasins du Louvre was one of the great Paris department stores and was founded in 1855 (it closed down in 1974 and the building is now well known as the site of the Louvre des Antiquaires)
