George IV, proof halfcrown, 1821, laureate head left, rev. crowned garnished shield, reeded edge (S.3807; ESC.2363), certified and graded by NGC as Proof-63 Cameo, sharp and blessed with brilliant mirrored lustre, a choice specimen and quite rare, from the seldom seen proof set of this coronation year, precise mintage unknown
Two others graded as Proof-63 by NGC, none higher.
'Coronation proof sets' made for sale to collectors did not materialise until 1831 for William IV, after which they became popular and regularly issued by the Royal Mint. However, a small number of sets were produced for George IV's reign in the coronation year, some containing coins dated 1820. Almost all such sets seem to have been broken up long ago.
