IMP M ANT GORDIANVS AFR AVG, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust to right, seen from rear / PROVIDENTIA AVGG, Providentia standing facing, head to left, leaning on short column and holding wand with right hand and cornucopiae with left; globe at her feet. RIC IV 1; RSC. 5; BMCRE 19-20 var. (rev. legend break). Gordian II was Roman emperor with his father Gordian I in AD 238, the Year of the Six Emperors. Seeking to overthrow Maximinus Thrax, he died in battle outside Carthage.
