Under the Gaelic name of Amlaíb Cuarán (the Sandal), Olaf was king of Dublin from 945 to 947. Although Olaf, who is mentioned in Njal's Saga, was a renowned warior he was also considered a patron of the Scandinavian skalds (poets).
