PERU. Cob 4 Reales, ND (1568-70)-P R. Lima Mint. Philip II. PCGS EF-40.
Cal-495; Sellschopp-2. Weight: 13.36 gms. Variety with "HISPAN" in reverse legend. This nicely preserved example boasts a strong strike with virtually complete legends on both sides. The central devices are well-formed and clear, though the obverse does show some minor doubling. Though technically not the finest certified, the grade does not reflect the overall quality. Typically, this type is found with poor metal quality and missing portions of the legends. This example is far superior than normally encountered and should be considered RARE in this state of preservation. Displaying rich slate patina with areas of lighter coloration on the high points with minor earthen deposits amongst the devices.
Estimate: 2000 - 3000
