Sweden, Gustav III SM 106 var 5 kopeks 1764 14.02 g. Avesta mint. Struck on planchet for 1 öre SM, smooth rim. Interesting imitative type struck during Gustav III war with Russia ca. 1787–1788. There are coins dated 1764, 1778 and 1787 of which the 1787-dated ones are by far most prevalent. This is the second recorded example struck on 1 öre SM planchet - the other one being in Avesta museum. It is unclear exactly why these were made, but presumably some form of trial pieces for the dies. Graded by NGC as MS62 BN. Bitkin 1286 (R3) var. RRRR. 01 1 more image is available at www.philea.se.
