Michael VIII Palaeologus, 1261-1282. Hyperpyron (Gold, 26mm, 4.13 g 6), Constantinople. The Virgin orans within city walls furnished with six groups of towers. Rev. St. Michael on left presenting kneeling emperor to Christ enthroned on right, holding scroll. SB 2242. A particularly attractive piece sharply struck on a broad flan. Minor areas of striking weakness, otherwise, extremely fine.
