Trajan Decius, with Herennia Etruscilla and Herennius Etruscus (?), 249-251. Uniface Plaquette (Bronze, 22x33 mm, 3.54 g). •AYT•KIC ΓAI MЄC•KYI•ΔЄKIOC TPAIANOC• On the right, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Trajan Decius to left, facing diademed and draped bust of Herennia Etruscilla and draped and cuirassed bust of Herennius Etruscus, on the left; all incuse. Rev. Blank. A highly unusual and attractive item. Extremely fine.
Somewhat reminiscent of the plaquette in Leu 7 (2020), 1514, albeit in much finer style, this engraved bronze tablet shows us the portraits of Trajan Decius and Herennia Etruscilla with one of their sons, presumably Herennius Etruscus, between them. It likely served as a seal, perhaps mounted in a ring, which is why the details are engraved incuse and the legend retrograde.
