ANCIENT COINS. Greek. Sicily, Syracuse (second Democracy, 466-405 BC), Silver Tetradrachm, struck c.440-430 BC, charioteer wearing a long chiton and holding a kentron and the reins, driving a slow quadriga right, Nike flies above to right to crown the horses, rev ΣYPA[KOΣ]ION, diademed head of Arethusa facing right, her hair bound with a ribbon, and wearing an earring and necklace, four dolphins swimming around, 17.19g, 9h (Boehringer 671 (V338/R458); SNG ANS 221 (these dies); Lockett 956 (these dies)). Usual slightly short flan, attractive light tone and captivating style, about extremely fine.
