CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 325-280 BC. Diobol (Silver, 12.5 mm, 1.18 g, 5 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet the bowl of which is decorated with an olive wreath; below, E. Rev. Herakles kneeling to right, lifting and strangling the Nemean lion grasped in a choke hold; above, Γ or Π. D'Andrea, Miglioli, Tafuri, Vonghia, Diobols, Type 108 corr. (due to the narrow flan of the single specimen known to the authors, they were unaware of letter above lion). Cf. HN III 976 (this variety not listed, but certainly falls within this grouping). Vlasto 1337. Toned. Good very fine.
