ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of Wessex. Edward the Elder. 899-924. AR Penny (22mm, 1.56 g, 10h). Circumscription cross/Horizontal-Late Trefoil (HLT 1) type (BMC ii). Lundene (London) mint; Tila, moneyer. Late period II, circa 920-924. + EADVVEARD REX, small cross pattée / TILA M/ONTEA in two lines; three crosses pattée between, trefoils flanking cross pattée above, trefoil below. CTCE 278; SCBI 6 (Edinburgh), 103 var. (upper symbols on rev.); BMC 56; North 649; SCBC 1087. Good VF, toned, a few faint scratches under tone, minor die breaks on reverse. Attractive London die style, typically found on bust-diademed type.
