PCGS graded Specimen 65. Jean-Claude Esparon was born in Saint-Laurent-de-Chamousset near Lyon (Rhône) on September 15, 1823. The Esparon family was a wealthy merchant family established for several centuries in Saint-Laurent-de-Chamousset. Esparon had two children from a first marriage: Julie Marie Esparon and Louis Georges Edouard Esparon, a fine stone engraver. Esparon died in Paris on November 26, 1886 at his home, and was buried in Paris in the Montparnasse cemetery. His tomb is decorated with a large bronze medallion by François-Louis Carpezat.
