SWEDEN. Penny, ND (1022-1050). Sigtuna Mint. Anund Jakob. NGC Unc Details--Peck Marked.
Delzanno-97; Llt-1; Malmer-9.199.1202; SMH-604; Bruun-11150. Weight: 1.25 gms. Moneyer: Ulah. Imitation of Cnut the Great's (and Ethelred's) Long Cross Coinage. Bust left, 'ANVND REX IN' / Long Cross, 'VLAH IN SITVN'. Excessively rare. Astounding condition with a natural, old toning over the uncirculated surfaces. The tiny die striations are perfectly preserved as are all the minute details. Three peck marks on the obverse are the only things to reveal this coin was ever in circulation and not taken straight from the mint to the ground to the L. E. Bruun Collection.
Son of Olof Skötkonung, the name 'Anund' was given by the Swedes, as 'Jakob', a Christian name, was both too foreign and strange sounding.
From the L. E. Bruun Collection.
Estimate: €10000 - €15000
