SWEDEN. Würzburg. Taler, 1631. Würzburg(?) Mint. Gustav II Adolf. NGC AU-55.
Dav-4559a; KM-90; SB-7b; Delzanno-449; Hagander-139; Bruun Auction-978; Bruun-11859. Weight: 29.00 gms. Mintmaster: Mathaeus Lauffer(?). Light toning in the peripheries and retaining most (nearly all) of its luster, this piece is in a league of its own, incredibly well-preserved, lots of eye appeal and gorgeous detailing.

After conquering Würzburg in 1631 gold and silver were plundered from the city churches and gold and silver coins struck, either in Würzburg itself or at the army camp outside the city. On some gold Ducats of the same design as this coin the initials 'ML' can be seen on the King's armor, but not on the Talers.

From the L. E. Bruun Collection.

Ex: Münzkabinett der Stadtbibliothek zu Leipzig / Leipzig City Library Collection (Leipzig - 1853), Lot #9593.

Estimate: €4000 - €5000
