SWEDEN. Augsburg. 2 Ducats, 1632. Augsburg Mint. Gustav II Adolf. NGC AU Details--Obverse Scratched.
Fr-111; KM-69; SB-2; Sg-26; Hagander-86; Bruun Auction-907; Bruun-11870. Weight: 7.00 gms. Mintmaster: Balthasar Schmidt. While the obverse shows light signs of wear, including the discreet scratches, the reverse holds much luster. A slight waviness to the flan does not distract from the beauty of this extremely rare Double Ducat with only about five known in private collections.

Augsburg in Southern Bavaria was conquered by Swedish forces in 1632. They held it till 1634 when the Imperial army retook it, and coins in the name of Gustav II Adolf were minted in 1632, 1633, and 1634.

From the L. E. Bruun Collection.

Estimate: €10000 - €12000
