SWEDEN. Stralsund. Ducat, 1638-CS. Stralsund Mint. Kristina. NGC AU Details--Edge Filing.
Fr-3368; KM-102; SB-1; SG-53; Hagander-194; Bruun Auction-1153; Bruun-11943. Weight: 3.41 gms. Mintmaster: Casper Sievers. Lightly bent, this coin is well-struck with very pleasing surfaces and sharp details. As a curiosity it is dated on both sides.

Having had minting right since the 13th century, Stettin / Szczecin issued this Ducat after Swedish conquest of the city, bearing the arms of the city on the obverse (an arrow or spearhead) and the name and symbol of the Holy Roman Emperor on the reverse, but no mention of the Swedish rulers - much to the Swedes' dismay.

From the L. E. Bruun Collection.

Estimate: €1000 - €1200
