GREAT BRITAIN. Sovereign, 1553. London Mint; mm: Pomegranate. Mary. PCGS AU-50.
S-2488; Fr-192; N-1956. Weight: 15.2 gms. An impressive and important hammered gold rarity. Nicely struck and essentially perfectly centered on a fully round flan, we note just a hint of softness at the extreme left of the throne. A very high grade example and the first we have sold since 2018, and this one is fresh to the market, last selling in our (Stack's) December 1992 auction. A highlight of the current offering of coins from the Dr. Michael Vale Collection, and will be an important addition to another outstanding collection of hammered English gold.
