Attika. Athens, 133-132 BC. 'New Style' Coinage. AR Tetradrachm (30.7 mm, 16.79 g.). Polycharmos, Nikog-, and Philode(mos), magistrates. Helmeted head of Athena to right. Rev. AΘE, owl, with head facing, standing right on overturned amphora; three magistrates' names in fields: ΠΟΛΥ - ΧΑΡΜ / NIKOΓ / ФIΛOΔE; winged caduceus to left; on amphora, B, below ME; all within laurel wreath. HGC 4, 1602; Thompson 379n. Dark and iridescent toning. An impressive example struck on a broad flan, an awesome contrast of dark and yellowish iridescent tone, about extremely fine.
