British India, 1857-58, Indian Mutiny Medal, Victoria Queen, Silver, Awarded to "Naick Bhaneea Mewar Bheel Corps", Obv: Wyon profile of Queen Victoria facing left, legend around "VICTORIA REGINA", Rev: the standing figure of Britannia bestowing victor's laurels, with the British lion alongside, "INDIA" appears round the top with the dates "1857-1858" in the exergue, engraved on the edge "NAICK BHANEEA MEWAR BHEEL CORPS", 36.5g, 36.25x51.9mm, (MYB 2007 # 121), with clasp and ribbon, about extremely fine, Very Rare.

Note: The Mewar Bheel Corps was established 1841 by Maharana Sardar Singhji under the command of Captain W. Hunter, with its headquarters in Kherwara, to provide employment to the 'Bhil' tribes. Its primary function was to maintain internal security in Mewar State by patrolling the hilly tracts and providing guards for residences at Mount Abu and Udaipur. Its initial strength was 4 companies, which was increased to 10 companies in 1844. In 1857, the Corps was used to patrol the passes leading out of Kherwara. After Independence, the Corps was transferred to the Rajasthan Police, where the unit still exists. Around 300 men of the Mewar Bheel Corps were entitled to the Indian Mutiny medal and this is the only known Mutiny medal to the unit.
