DENMARK. Aarhus. Marcus Koppels & Sons. 1 Mark Dansk Courant, 11.6.1809. PMG Very Fine 20.
Pick-Unlisted. FGN-75. Bruun-101. Signed by trade company Marcus Koppels and Sons (Marcus Koppels Sønner). Moderate circulation, but with all printed design elements clear and no major problems. This note is the plate note in Finn Grandt-Nielsen and listed therein as unique for the issuer.
Marcus Koppels & Sons was founded by two brothers originally from Jutland. According to FGN, the company may have specialized in luxury goods. This is one of the few issues of these emergency notes for which we have an indication of the quantity printed: Markus Koppel ordered 15 sheets of 20 banknotes (300 notes total) in June of 1809, which were put into circulation shortly thereafter.
