Legendary "Castle Gotha" Penny in Lovely Condition

Arm and Sceptre (BMC xvii) type in the name of Cnut; S-1169; North-799; cf. Hild-1000; SCBI Cop-1061 (plate coin); Bruun-272. Weight: 1.10 gms. Moneyer: Leomær. Extremely rare and interesting Mint. A gorgeous Penny with a sublime toning, exquisite details and a nice even flan.
The location of the very rare mint "Gothaburh," also cited as "Castle Gotha," remains uncertain. In the 1928 Bruun catalog, Galster points to Ythanceaster in Essex, but stylistic details have led Dolley and Elmore-Jones to suggest a location in West Wessex.
