Schive-cf. II:24; NM-3; NMH-14b; Skaare-62d; Bruun-8853; Weight: 0.88 gms. Hairline split in flan. Exceptionally well-struck, nicely toned and presenting an attractive luster. An extremely rare type with the enigmatic obverse motif of a Triquetra (three interconnected arc shapes) that has roots in the ancient Celtic religion but was used on Danish coins by Cnut and Harthacnut.
Harald Hardrada (Severe / Resolute) is often thought of as the epitome of a Viking king, and his name is further immortalized by several appearances in popular culture ranging from H. P. Lovecraft to the Netflix series "Vikings".
