NORWAY. 1/4 Penny (?), ND (1177-1202). Bergen Mint (?). Sverre Sigurdsson. NGC AU-53.
Schive-VI:90; NM-18:1 (1976); NM-8 (1992); Bruun-9063; Weight: 0.06 gms. Hairline split in flan but nicely centered, toned and with excellent detail.
Almost all of the Bracteates minted in the latter part of the 12th century were of the so-called "lettered" type, and the few exceptions, like the present with a crowned, facing head are extremely rare. This type seems to have struck over a longer period of time with varying weights, and the denomination is uncertain.
From the L. E. Bruun Collection.

Estimate: 2500 - 3500
