Highly Detailed and Extremely Rare Half Taler
NORWAY. 1/2 Speciedaler, 1659. Christiania Mint. Frederik III. NGC AU Details--Reverse Cleaned.
KM-53; Hede-37; Sieg-18; NMD-127; Schou-29; Aagaard-71.1; Bruun-9803. Weight: 14.39 gms. Mintmaster: Frederik Grüner (FG). Engraver: Johan Blum (obverse). A hairline scratch in obverse field aside, this is a lovely piece with a very clear strike. Extremely rare.

The Norwegian Half Talers struck during the reign of Frederik III are each and every one very rare. It is therefore no wonder that the standard question the famous Danish collector, Axel Ernst (1891 - 1964) put forward to collectors annoyingly bragging about their collections was: "How many 1/2 Speciedalers from Frederik III do you own".

From the L. E. Bruun Collection.

Ex: Countship of Brahesminde Collection (Private Sale - 1922).

Estimate: 25000 - 35000
