Terms of Sale

Bidders must show proof of identification before the auction, and subsequently be registered. The Auction House may require a bank reference and/or guarantee. The Auction House reserves the right to deny a person from participate in the auction.
The director of the sale may raise or reject a bid without giving a reason, and furthermore reserves the right to combine or split up catalogue lots, or to offer them out of sequence or omit or withdraw them form the auction.

As it’s a public auction, in a real room, in a real time, we cannot accept bids like 201€, 435€ or 588€. There are steps for bids progression:
Up to 500€ 20€ by 20€
500€ to 1000€ 50€ by 50€
1000€ to 2000€ 100€ by 100€ …
In addition of the lot’s hammer price, the buyer must pay the buyer’s premium:
18 % + current VAT 20% = 21,6 %
The taxe (VAT on commissions) can be retroceded to the purchaser only on presentation of written proof of exportation outside the EEC.
An EU purchaser who will submit his intra-Community VAT number will be exempted from paying VAT on buyer’s premium providing.
Every buyer (successful bidder) must observe all legislative decrees concerning items considered to be of particular and important artistic or historic interest and value. The export of a lot of numismatic interest, outside French territory, is regulated by specific customs, tributary and monetary regulations. Every certificate needed for export licence is applied for through the Cultural office takes roughly 80 days to be issued. The export licence application will be sent to the ministry only upon payment of the lot and only upon express authorization of the buyer. JEAN VINCHON NUMISMATIQUE and PHIDIAS is not responsible for any restrictions the ministry may place on the export of the lot nor for any other export licence the buyer may have to obtain as per French law.
It concern: All Ancient coins before 1500 with a value higher than 1500€ (cat 1B)
All coins with a value higher than 15000 € (cat 1C)
Shipping and insurance are at the buyer’s cost and risk. Any fees and charges payable abroad are borne by the buyer (successful bidder) who is responsible for acquiring the necessary information about any applicable customs and foreign exchange regulations. The Auction House accepts no liability for any contraventions of such regulations.
PAYMENT
The payment of the lot will be made the day of the auction or at the first request for the whole of price, costs and taxes.
The purchaser will be authorized to pay by the following means:
• In cash : up to 1000 euros, costs and taxes included for the French citizens and people acting on behalf for a company ; up to 15000 euros, costs and taxes included for the foreign citizens on presentation of their identity card or passport.
• By cheque only drawn on a French bank
• By Bank transfer with all charge to the buyer (bank references for the wire on the invoice)
