1. Customers may purchase any item at the listed buy price at any time during the sale.
2. Clients who do not wish to pay the buy price may instead place a lower bid/offer on any item. Items that do not sell at the buy price will be awarded to the highest accepted bid at the time of the sale’s close, which is at 4:00 PM CT on the closing date.
3. At the beginning of the sale, there is no set reserve, so clients may offer any amount they wish. Approximately two weeks before the sale closes, HJB will review unsold lots and decide whether to accept existing bids/offers. Bidders will be notified in MYHJB if their bids are accepted. Once a bid is accepted, the next accepted bid must be at least 10% higher than the current highest accepted bid. Please note: accepted bids/offers do not guarantee that a bidder has won a lot—lots remain available for purchase or higher bids until the sale closes.
4. The Next Accepted Bid will be posted during the final two weeks of the sale. This is the amount required to become the new highest bidder. It will be either HJB’s reserve price or 10% above the current highest accepted bid/offer. If you have previously placed a bid/offer, please log in to see if you are currently the winning bidder after these updates.
5. Proxy bidding is not accepted. The amount you bid is the amount you pay—no reductions or automatic increments will be applied.
6. There are no buyer’s fees.
7. All items are guaranteed genuine for authenticity. Our invoices serve as both binding contracts and certificates of authenticity, backed by a lifetime guarantee. HJB guarantees authenticity but does not guarantee grade.
o Ancient coins submitted to Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) that come back as undetermined or no decision are not eligible for refund.
o Coins deemed not genuine by NGC will be evaluated case-by-case.
o As NGC provides only opinions and does not guarantee authenticity, HJB accepts final rulings only from the IBSCC (IAPN), of which we are a member.
o All IBSCC submissions will be handled through HJB, including their fees. Items are fully insured once in HJB’s possession.
8. Title to any coin or antiquity does not pass to the buyer until full payment is received.
9. All items are priced in U.S. dollars and are subject to prior sale. HJB reserves the right to cancel any transaction at its discretion.
10. Payment can be made by VISA, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express. A 2.5% surcharge applies only to catalog items purchased with credit cards. There is no surcharge on regular fixed-price items, except for bullion items.
11. We accept checks of all types (in U.S. dollars) and bank wire transfers (also in U.S. dollars). All wire transfer fees must be paid by the sender; HJB must receive the full invoiced amount.
12. Shipping charges vary by item. We will contact you with the final total after processing your order.
13. Returns must be initiated within two weeks, and our office should be contacted as soon as possible. Buyers are responsible for safely returning items to our Chicago office.
