Chavin Mortar. A rare Chavin stone mortar from Peru, ca. 1200 – 200 BC. It is 1-1/2” in diameter and is made from a nicely polished yellow stone. These small mortars were used to grind pigment used in the production of fine ceramics. In excellent condition, with strong mineral deposits. Ex Gallatin estate.
