CRETE, Aptera. Circa 250-67 BC. Æ (11mm, 1.31 g, 11h). Laureate head of Apollo right / Race torch flame within incuse circle. Cf. Svoronos, Numismatique 45; SNG Copenhagen –; Traeger –. VF, brown patina, struck off center. Very rare.

From the Colin E. Pitchfork Collection. Ex Spink Noble 34 (14 November 1990), lot 1747; Glendining's (7 November 1979), lot 31 (part of).

An intriguing coin, similar to the illustrated specimen in Svoronos, but on a small flan and with a compact design. The issue may be much earlier, possibly the 4th-3rd century BC.
