ASIA MINOR, Uncertain. Circa 550-520 BC. AR Sixth Stater (8.5mm, 1.45 g). Stylized head of griffin right / Quadripartite incuse square. CH VIII, Hoard 11, pl. II, 14–21. Near VF, toned, edge split. Very rare.

These coins first appeared as part of a hoard reportedly found in the area of ancient Lycia in 1985. The eight pieces known from that hoard have been augmented a handful of other pieces that have appeared on the market since, that are likely from the same find: all exhibit the same surfaces and toning, and most of the hoard was unrecorded before its dispersal in commerce. Whether these coins were minted in Lycia is uncertain.
