CHINA. Yunnan Sanchuo Jieding. Provincial Three Stamp Remittance Ingots. Twelve Piece Month Dated Packsaddle Ingot Set, ND.
BMC-Class LXVI Group H; Tai-type I-M#1. 12 pieces in set. A rarely seen assemblage of 5 Tael ingots. The type which have a month number included in the inscription, and in this case with an example of each of the twelve months, from the same issuing bank and with the same assayer chop. "Gong Gu Tong Kan Qi" (Checked by public assayer Tong). "Lei Qing Tai Hao _ Yue Wen Yin" [Leiqingtai Bank, (Month number) month fine silver]. This particular type of packsaddle ingots was widely used and was made during nearly the entire history of the use of packsaddle ingots in Yunnan. The reason for stating the month of manufacture was to keep track of payments being made by Yunnan remittance banks to entities in other provinces, or over a far distance which may take several months to arrive. In this way an agreed upon payment could be made at an agreed upon time despite the uncertainty of travel time. The ingots are housed in a case with fitted pockets for each piece. Quite handsome when viewed all together. EXTREMELY FINE.
Estimate: $7000.00- $9000.00
