CHINA. Qing Dynasty Imperial Envoy Plenipotentiary for Negotiations Silver Medal, ND (ca. Late 1800's).
40.5 mm; 26.75 gms (including ribbon). Li-pg. 34 (plate example). Three line inscription flanked by flags with dragons over the sea; Reverse: Chinese character flanked by dragons and topped with a flaming pearl. Ornamental loop at top. These medals were given to representatives of the Qing government who negotiated on their behalf with foreign powers such as Great Britain, France, Sweden, Norway, United States of America and Russia to name a few. Perhaps a couple of the best known Qing negotiators were Ch'i ying (1806-60) and Li Hung-chang (ca. 1867-1900). Boldly struck, especially on the obverse. Appealing pearl gray patina overall, with slight darkening toward the peripheries. CHOICE EXTREMELY FINE.

Estimate: $10000.00- $15000.00
