CHINA. Bronze Chang Chih Tung Medal, ND (ca. 1896-1909).
37.2 mm; 24.0 gms. Li-pg. 118-119 (plate example). Flying dragon and flaming pearl within an ornamental border; Reverse: Chinese inscription in two lines at top with one column down the center flanked by two different characters. A stippled background helps to highlight the dragon design on obverse. A bale is affixed to the top, and a jump ring still retains a short length of ochre silk ribbon. As Viceroy of Huguang (modern day provinces of Hunan and Hupeh), Chang Chih-tung issued these awards to individuals who contributed to modernization and the promotion of industry and commerce during the years 1896 to 1909. The coloration on the obverse is a gorgeous olive gold. The reverse is similar, but with a few spots of minor discoloration, and some minor contact marks and scratches. EXTREMELY FINE.
