CHINA. Sinkiang. Collection of 5 Mace & Taels, ca. 1896-1917.
36 pieces in lot. Comprised of (9) Taels (L&M-837-838), (2) crossed flags type 5 Mace and (25) wreath type 5 Mace from The Kashgar and Tihwa mints. The collection has some contemporary counterfeit pieces including a 5 Mace struck in copper and several with odd seemingly intentionally muddled strikes. In addition to these odd strikings, the Tael pieces include a few interesting strikes of their own. One piece struck about fifteen percent off center, one with a very clear understrike rotated at about forty five degrees, and one with a small double strike near the edge. Many pieces with corrosion, verdigris or evidence of cleaning. An interesting assemblage of diverse strikes worthy of close inspection. Retail value of about $2,500. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. FINE-EXTREMELY FINE.
