Aethelred II (978-1016), Penny, 1.66g, Benediction hand type, Canterbury, Leofstan, draped, diademed bust right, cross tipped sceptre before, rev. +lefstan m-o caent, Hand of Providence giving latin benediction, with curve each side of sleeve and cross within, dividing Alpha and Omega (Jonsson and Van der Meer p.61; N.769; S.1147), some contemporary metal testing and light double striking to bottom portion of obverse, struck on a large, bold flan and with the essential devices for this type well-outlined, good very fine and the Benediction hand of Aethelred one of the toughest types to source in the late Anglo-Saxon coinage.
