Galba (AD 68-69). AR quinarius (15mm, 1.71 gm, 7h). Uncertain mint in Gaul, November AD 68-15 January AD 69. SER · GALBA · IMP · CAESAR · AVG · P · M · T · P ·, laureate head of Galba right / VICTORIA GALBAE · AVG, Victory standing right on globe, holding palm frond and wreath. RIC I 132 (Lugdunum). King 1. RSC 317. Very rare! Minor scrape on forehead, otherwise nicely centered and struck. NGC Choice XF 5/5 - 3/5, scuffs. The quinarius, half a denarius, was introduced along with the denarius in circa 211 BC, but only sporadically struck thereafter. In the imperial period, it appears to have been struck mainly for special occasions, perhaps for congiariums, when the regime handed out money to the populace.
