Republic white-metal Trial Strike 8 Soles ND (1851) AU, Potosi mint, cf. KM109. Lustrous and essentially as struck, with a few handling marks. A uniface white metal strike from a cancelled obverse die of the 1851 8 Soles 1851 PTS-M. The identification of the date of the die lies is based on the vertical die-break across Bolivar's bust: an earlier state of this die has been identified by the cataloguer on the 8 Soles 1851 PTS-M specimen of the former Paul Karon collection (Superior Galleries 12/1990, lot 515), and since the type of the 8 Soles was changed in early 1852 to the laureated-bust-of-Bolivar type, this precludes the use of the die to strike any coins dated after 1851. Obviously rare, and of great interest to both the collector of Republican Bolivia and Bolivariana alike.

Estimate: 2000-3000 USD
