Pedro II Fine Arts Exhibition Award Medals Pair ND (1860-1888), Rio de Janeiro mint. Engraved by Luster. Two award medals for the Exhibition of Fine Arts, as follows:- VC-72, Meili-166. Silver, 34mm, 23.37g. Lustrous Mint State. Obverse: D. PEDRO II IMP. DO BRAS., bust of Pedro II facing left. Reverse: EXPOSICAO GERAL DA ACADEMIA DAS BELLAS ARTES DO RIO DE JANEIRO. AO GENIO E A APLICACAO. - VC-unl., Meili-unl. Gold, 34mm, 29.15g. Mint State, cleaned. Similar to last, but struck in gold. These 34mm size awards correspond respectively to the "Medalha de Prata" and "Medalha de ouro" awards recorded in the annals of these exhibitions. The larger 46 mm comparable awards were the respective 1st medal awards – "Primeira Medalha de .." also recorded therein. One medal of this 34mm size but personally inscribed to photographer Marc Ferrez is also offered in the present remarkable collection. The silver piece rare, the gold piece extremely rare with only three confirmed examples by the cataloguer.
