Reverse: PARA GLORIA DA REPUBLICA, 5-line inscription EM HONRA DO POVO BRASILEIRO E DO EXERCITO E ARMADA NACIONAES (To the honor of the Brazilian people, the National Army and the Navy).VC-unl. Silver, 75mm, 239.33g. Uncirculated, beautifully toned. Similar to last but struck in silver. This massive and beautiful piece is the most iconic Brazilian Republican medal. It was struck to commemorate the new Republic, proclaimed on November 15, 1889. A day later, the Imperial family boarded the ship Alagoas and left Brazil in exile. The latin inscription on the obverse - a quote from Virgil's Eclogues - is also the motto of the Minas Gerais state. The copper piece rare, the silver piece very rare and desirable, especially so well preserved.
