Charles VII (1422-61) gold Royal d'or ND AU58 NGC, Chinon? mint, 1st Emission, from 9 October 1429, Fr-303, Duplessy-455. KAROLVS : DЄI GRA | : FRAИCORV : RЄ | Є, crowned king standing facing holding two scepters on a field of lis / + XPЄ : VINCIT : XPЄ : RЄGИAT : IXPЄ : IMPЄRAT, cross fleurée with leaves, a quadrilobe in the center; all within a quadrilobe with lis at points and crowns in spandrels. Struck on an oblong planchet, this is an unusual example of the type, blundered with Є's for C's in the reverse legend. The final part of the same legend is re-engraved with IXPЄ where the engraver had initially and mistakenly begun to engrave IMPЄRAT. The attribution to Chinon is somewhat tentative, as there are no pellets or annulets in the legends to corroborate the mintmark. However, following the logic of the errors in the reverse legend, the Є at the end of the obverse legend is most likely intended to be a C.

Estimate: 1000-1500 USD
