Paris Mint Libertas Americana Proof gold Medal Restrike 1781 (2001), 64 gm. 45.86 mm. .920 fine gold. 445/500. An absolutely spectacular selection, struck in high relief and featuring the well-known bust of Liberty with flowing hair, cap and pole behind, LIBERTAS AMZEICANA above and 4. JUIL. 1776 in exergue. The reverse devices portray an allegorical design in which a female warrior (France) defends an infant (America) from an attacking lion (Great Britain). NON SINE DIIS ANIMOSUS INFANS at rim, 17/19 OCT. 1777/1781 in exergue referencing the victories at Yorktown and Saratoga. A glorious restrike with exceptionally fresh fields and satiny devices, sold with certificate and original box of issue.
