George II "Lima" Crown 1746 MS62 NGC, Royal mint, KM585.3, S-3689, ESC-125. A classic type, struck from captured Spanish silver, and endlessly sought by collectors as a result of this historic George Anson led naval confrontation. On the present piece, lovely old cabinet toning confirms exceptional originality with strike detailing that renders sharp definition from the outer lettering through George's portrait in the coin's center. Really very choice for this issue and clearly superior to the last "fine" example of this type we sold, a NGC AU58 from the Eric P. Newman collection that realized $8,225 in January 2014.
